Focus on Web Design
| Question | Appealing | Unappealing |
|---|---|---|
| a. What is the URL of the Web site? | http://www.rodneysmith.com | http://www.yvettesbridalformal.com |
| b. Does this page use tables? If so, for what purpose-page layout, organization of information, or another reason? | Yes. The page uses tables for the navigation links and other formatted information. | Yes. But I had difficulty finding tables. And Navigation. And sobriety. I was trying to find and follow the "pink link"! |
| c. Does this page use CSS? If so, for what purpose-page layout, text and color configuration, or another reason? | Yes. The individual page and the website pretends to use CSS. The list is quite detailed - color, text, nav_text, select, label. It is rather lengthy. 96% of CSS (estimated) is not used by the current home page. |
Yes. Somewhere. 51% of CSS (estimated) is not used by the current page. |
| d. Is this page appealing or unappealing? List three reasons for your answer. | In my opinion, appealing and inviting. It is clean and graphically stark. It suites Rodney Smith's fine art photography, because the type imagery is used "artfully" and very graphically. Most of the type on "main" pages appears to be images. And, there is a page with nothing . . . | Please take Dramamine® before entering this site. And, before listening to the music be cautious. It shows complete and utter lack of transition, design, and organization. A list of three is not enough reasons to worry over this site. Good luck finding navigation! It is a journey unto itself. |
| e. If this page is unappealing, what would you do to improve it? | I would not change the look/design of the page. It is reserved, looks very 70s print-oriented, and focuses on the black and white imagery. However, it needs to be gleaned and cleaned. It should be built much better. | Back it up on a disk and smash it with a hammer. Honestly, there is no hope of fixing it. I like the pig picture ... on whatever page it is "stuck". I find all of it humorous for a bridal and formal site. It reminds me of a wretched "my space" page. I would be curious to investigate the estimated "gross" sales of the store! |
